Shea Butter Benefits: Why It’s the Secret to Healthy, Hydrated Skin

If you’ve ever flipped over a fancy lip balm, you’ve probably seen "Shea Butter" at the top of the list. Here at Fosters Fields, it is the one of the essentials in my workspace that I just can't live without. But did you know where it actually comes from?

From Nut to Butter

Shea butter is actually extracted from the nuts of the Karite tree, native to West Africa. These nuts are crushed, roasted, and slow-boiled to create the rich, creamy butter we love. Because it is a nut-derived fat, it is incredibly shelf-stable and packed with Vitamins A and E—making it the gold standard for natural skincare. Due to the processing, natural shea butter has a roasted nutty scent that some love and some hate. Most skin care is formulated using a deodorized butter, which gently removes the nutty scent.

Why I Use It

In my workspace, I’ve found that the combination of high-quality oils and Shea Butter creates a truly luxurious experience. It helps to:

-Lock in Moisture: It creates a breathable "buffer" on your skin.

-Deeply Condition: It provides a silky feel before you even reach for your towel.

-Soothe: It’s a favorite for those with sensitive skin.

The Fosters Fields Difference

Fosters Fields soaps have been specially formulated for sensitive skin to cleanse without over-drying. However, soap is a wash-off product that requires more routine to lock in moisture.

While the Shea Butter acts as a gentle "buffer" to protect your skin's natural oils, it doesn't replace the need to use lotion for some people with extra dry sensitive skin—myself included! If your skin is prone to being thirsty, our soap ensures you aren't starting your day with that "stripped" feeling, but it works best as the first step in a healthy routine. Fosters Fields soap with shea butter is formulated to be gentle, without stripping your natural oils.
