Essential Oils vs. Fragrance Oils: Why Quality and Precision Matter

Let's Talk About It

When you’re choosing a candle to light in your living room or a soap for your morning shower, you aren’t just choosing a scent—you’re choosing what goes on your skin and into your air.

In our studio, we use both Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils. While there is often a debate about which is "better," I believe what matters most is the strict criteria I use to choose every single ingredient before it ever touches a batch of my product.

The Natural Power of Essential Oils

Essential oils are pure plant extracts, distilled from flowers, leaves, and bark. We love them for their aromatherapy benefits. When you use our lavender or eucalyptus blends, you are breathing in the actual plant compounds that help promote relaxation or focus. They offer a raw, earthy complexity that only nature can provide.

The Artistry of Fragrance Oils (The "Clean" Way)

Many people worry when they hear the word "synthetic," but not all fragrance oils (FOs) are created equal. Because I personally live with sensitive skin, I am incredibly picky about what enters my workshop.

1.Phthalate-Free & Paraben-Free: Every fragrance oil I select is strictly phthalate-free and paraben-free. Many mass-produced scents use phthalates to boost scent throw, but these can be harsh on the body. By cutting them out, I ensure a cleaner burn and a gentler wash.

2.Skin-Safe Science: These oils allow us to create scents that nature can’t—like "Blackberry Vanilla" or "Cinnamon Buns"—while maintaining a safety profile that I trust for my own skin.

The Secret is in the Science: Precision Matters

Whether I am working with a botanical essential oil or a high-quality fragrance oil, the most important part of my process happens in the formulating and testing.

Creating safe soap and candles isn't about "pouring until it smells good." It requires careful calculations and exact weighing for every single batch.

1.Safety First: Every oil has a specific "usage rate" (the maximum amount allowed for skin safety). Using too much can cause irritation—even with 100% natural essential oils! And not all essential oils or fragrance oils are suitable for use in candles or bath and body products

2.The Perfect Burn: In candles, the ratio of oil to wax is a science. If the weight is off, the candle may smoke or won't burn efficiently.

3.Consistency: By weighing every gram of oil, I ensure that the bar of soap you buy today is just as gentle and effective as the one you bought six months ago.

My Philosophy

I only make products that I am confident using on my own sensitive skin. Whether you prefer the plant-based purity of essential oils or the nostalgic joy of our phthalate-free fragrance blends, you can trust that they have been measured with precision, tested with care, and created with your well-being in mind.

I hope this helps you feel confident in choosing the right scent for your home. Please feel free to stay a while and wander through the shop to see what we have to offer in both essential oils and fragrance oils
